A Visit from Sweden – Una visita de Suecia

Back in August 1984, Douglas began his final season of high school cross country. Little did he know that year would bring an addition to the team in the form of a Swedish exchange student. Patrick and Douglas became good friends that year, competing not only in cross country together, but also in track. Unfortunately, they waited thirty one years before getting together again, and they both look a little different. Can you tell who is who in this picture?

On Friday, June 03, the reunion finally occurred. Patrick arrived at our house with his two youngest children Emilia and Lukas. We would only have three days together, but we fit in as much as possible.

Patrick's visit

We spent the weekend showing our friends that New York is more than a big city. We visited a farm, hiked in the woods, viewed a large dam, and enjoyed home cooked dinners.

Patrick's visit

Patrick appreciated the chance to show his children what everyday life in the United States can be by staying at our house and taking them to the grocery store.

Emilia turned fourteen while at our house. I made her a pumpkin cake with some pumpkin that I cooked and froze last fall.

Patrick's visit

Their visit was over all too soon, but we vowed that we would not wait another thirty one years before getting together again. Now we need to go visit them in Sweden!

Patrick's visit

Speaking of trips, I will be taking a bit of a hiatus from the blog. Tomorrow I leave for Mexico, where I am going on a professional development trip. I am also taking advantage of the fact that I am getting a paid trip to Mexico to extend my trip so that I can visit some friends in the capital. I will only be home for two days before leaving for Argentina on anther trip for the school. There I will be staying with a teacher in Buenos Aires and visiting her school for a couple of weeks, before going to Mendoza to visit another friend. I am excited about me trips! In the meantime, Douglas will be at home, slaving away at the house, so I should have lots to tell you when I get back.

Happy Travels!

¡Feliz viaje!

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com
