Guest Book

You might have noticed that we get quite a bit of company here at the Cape of Dreams. Douglas jokes that the Venezuelan invasions have been growing in force. We had one Venezuelan visit in September, three came in October and now there are five more in this little house. He swears it is only a matter of time before they have overtaken our home. He is taking it very well considering the fact that he does not speak Spanish and has been surrounded by it for the past couple of weeks.

To document our visits we have a guest book. Cabo de sueños is the name of our house in Spanish. I just picked a book that I had laying around. Because I keep a diary, I often receive journals as gifts. This was one that I had not started writing in yet. I liked that it was red and would fit into the decor. I now wish that I had not picked a book with a cloth cover. It has been hard to keep clean.

Douglas was the first person in the book, but I do not think that he understood what I was asking him to do. He just signed his name… and added “slave laborer” after it.

Since that morning in 2010, we have had ninety one entries. And a few people forgot to sign!

Honestly, we love to have company. I grew up with people in my house constantly and always loved it. We had Cubans, Armenians and even Pennsylvanians living with us while I was growing up. Now, the international trend continues in our home, with visitors from around the world. There are messages in Turkish, Portuguese and many in Spanish.

I love having this record of the beautiful moments we have passed with our family and friends in our home.

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com

  1. Jessica what a great idea! It never occurred to me to do that. We don’t have guests that often but still it’ll be such a meaningful keepsake to have. Again, I may steal your idea! Hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
