If the Shoe Fits – Si el zapato queda bien

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make the biggest difference. You might not remember, but back in August 2014, I bought a wooden rack to hold the shoes we keep by the back door.

That flimsy little rack was better than a pile of shoes by the back door, but it was not structurally sound. I was constantly having to adjust it to keep it from falling apart. It was also just a little too high for the space. However, I was too lazy to look for another solution, so we lived with it for to years. Then, last month at BJ’s I came across this little metal rack that seemed like it would be perfect. The fact that it was only $25 sealed the deal. I brought it home and placed our shoes on it.

The basket was given to me from someone on our local “Buy Nothing” Facebook page. It contains Kahlua’s leash and other paraphernalia that we do not want out cluttering the area. The cats have been using it as a scratching post, but I think that it still looks better than it would to have the mess out in the open.

Our wall of crates has also changed over the years. We have a lot of different grains and legumes for our dining pleasure.

So, it was only a small change, but for me it made all the difference.

Entonces, sólo hubo un cambió infinitísimo, pero a mí me hizo sentir mucho mejor.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. nice! love the new rack. where do you keep the rest of your shoes? we have to have about 5x that much shoe storage in the front hall due to hubby’s roughly 8 pairs of running shoes, plus my sneakers, our flip flops, beach shoes, motorcycle boots, winter boots, etc.!
the metal looks really nice there. and the basket, too. i kind of like how baskets look after being “conditioned” by cats. birdie has been working on a couple in our house for the past 2 years and they’re getting quite fluffy!

    • If you click on the first link, you will see the rest of my shoe storage. I keep them in clear shoe boxes. The ones that I wear most frequently are in the armoire in my bedroom, and the rest are in the basement. I have a lot! I really don’t mind how the basket looks either. The cats really enjoy sitting on it, and that is what counts.
