It’s Fall, but My Garden Doesn’t Know It

I am usually more prepared for Halloween than I am this year. I have some ideas floating around in my head, but I need some time to put it together. In the meantime, I decided that I could at least put some mums in my garden. Not that mums have anything to do with Halloween, but they at least represent autumn.

???????????????????????????????

Two went in the front garden.

Mums

One went on the porch in place of the geranium that has been there all summer.

The geranium and some other annuals went into pots to come into the house. They will come out again next spring.

I made some friends along the way.

The house looks a lot more fall like, except that the butterfly bush is blooming. the tomatoes and jalapeños are still ripening, and another crop of raspberries appeared on the bush. There are dandelions in the yard and the day lilies have fresh flowers. These are certainly not signs of fall.

I wish that I had a picture of the raspberries to share with you. I had planned to take one for proof that they are indeed there. Before I could go inside to get the camera, I decided to eat just one raspberry. After that I ate another… and another… and then, they were all gone. So, no picture for you, but I have no regrets because they were delicious. You will have have to take my word for it.

I love fall, but I am not going to complain about this gorgeous weather. I will end with a picture of these marigolds. They are so beautiful that they take my breath away.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. • Thank you! I have been enjoying these warm days, but I am still hoping for a lot of snow this winter, so it is going to have to get cold eventually. 😉

    • Oh, I feel bad that you have never seen one! My earliest memory of a praying mantis was when I ran over one when I was five. I got off my bike to check it out, and a college student came over. He told me that I would go to jail for killing it since they were an endangered species. I worried that they were coming to get me for a long time! I try not to kill them any more. 😉
