June – junio 2017

The first week of June was our last week of school. Graduation was on June 10. It was a busy work full of final grading, meetings, and a new position for me. I will be the Community Service Coordinator for the high school this upcoming school year. It will mean a lot more work, but I look forward to it. Community Service is important to me.

The big adventure of the month was a trip to Peru. Yes. I traveled out of the country again this year. I just cannot seem to stay in the United States for very long. One of the highlights of this trip was getting to visit with my friend Michael in Lima. Here we are in a park full of cats. Hundreds of cats! It was a great place.

Another place that impressed me was the Cathedral of San Francisco, and the catacombs beneath it. They do not allow photography on the inside, but this website has some great pictures. I borrowed the picture of the bones from them. I got very claustrophobic down there with the bones, especially when our guide started talking about all of the earthquakes in Peru. I keep imagining what it would be like to be trapped down there with the skeletons if the cathedral only partially collapsed on top of us.

By far the best part of the entire trip was our visit to Machu Picchu. My brother and I spend two days there, and I would have liked to have more time. I would like to return one day. There is so much to tell about our trip, but that will have to wait for another time.

And the llamas… so many llamas! If you know me, it will not surprise you that I took over 400 pictures of the llamas.

At the end of the month, Spiderman and Ironman came to spend the weekend with Douglas and me. We had a good time with them. Douglas participated in the Sleepy Hollow sprint triathlon. Spiderman ran into the finish with him, but Ironman was too shy. Afterward, we visited the lighthouse.

Douglas’ trip across the country continues to go well. It has been really hot – getting up to 120° F, which I thought was impossible for Oregon and Idaho. They are finding shade where ever they can, but their campsites have been beautiful.

Kahlua, Crème, Ponche and I miss Douglas a lot, but we have been keeping busy. Hopefully, I will not be to busy to post again this week. I would like to give you an update on the garden.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com

  1. A park full of cats–heaven! 🙂
I’m envious you got to Machu Pichu … your travels this year have been incredible.
The pix of your fur babies are so sweet!

    • Creme, Ponche and Kahlua say thank you. I have been fortunate with my travels this year and highly recommend visiting Machu Picchu. Also, the John F. Kennedy Park in Lima with all of the cats. They were really friendly and easy to pet.

  2. Love the cat park! and machu pichu. look forward to seeing more pics! i never get tired of seeing pics of your brother 😛
douglas’ trip – omg! that is crazy hot. but i’m sure he’s seeing some amazing sights. i need to check out his website after i finish catching up with yours. glad that you got to see ironman & spiderman again!

    • Our brother Jeremy said this summer that he always laughs whenever Justin shows up in a post and there are more comments about him than whatever project we are working on. Justin didn’t know what he was talking about, so I got to give him a hard time about not reading my blog. I guess he might be more motivated now!

    • Thanks! I’m excited about the new position. Well… as excited as I can be while trying not to think about the start of the new school year. I’m in denial that summer has to end!
