Kayak Shed – Part I – Cobertizo – Parte I

As I said on Monday, last week we bought two stand up paddle boards (SUPs) and did not remember until they arrived that we had nowhere to keep them. They spent one night in our living room, which was not a good solution. It was so bad that I apparently forgot to take a picture to commemorate how ridiculous it was to have them there. After that they went in the back yard.

Como dije el lunes, la semana pasada compramos dos tablas para surf de remo y no pensamos en el hecho de que no teníamos dónde guardarlas. Pasaron una noche en nuestra sala de estar, la cual no era una solución adecuada. Era tan mala que ni saqué una foto para conmemorar qué tan ridículo era tenerlas allí. Después de eso salieron de la casa.

Our kayaks are plastic and therefore can withstand more rustic conditions, but regardless, we have been planning to build a structure on which to store them for a while. Now that we have the SUPs there could be no more excuses. Even covered with a tarp, it was obvious that they could be ruined if left out in the elements. Since they are not cheap, we knew that a better solution was imperative. We were going to have to build a shed in which to store the kayaks and the SUPs.

Los kayaks son de plástico y entonces pueden aguantar condiciones más rústicas, sin embargo, habíamos estado planeando construir una estructura en la cual guardarlos por muchísimo tiempo. Ahora que tenemos las tablas no podíamos esperar más. Fuera con las excusas. Aún cubiertas con una carpa, era obvio que se arruinarían si las dejáramos afuera sin protección. Como no son baratas, sabíamos que era imperativa buscar una solución mejor. Teníamos que construir un cobertizo para los kayaks y las tablas.

The first question that needed to be answered is where. It seemed that the best location would either be in between the huge tree on the left of our property and the shed, which is hidden behind the bushes in this picture from August 2015 or to the right of the tree on the far right of this picture.

La primera pregunta que contestar era dónde construir nuestro cobertizo. Parecía que el mejor lujar sería entre el árbol grande y la estructura pequeña a la izquierda de la propiedad que se esconde detrás de los arbustos en esta foto de agosto del 2015 o a la derecha del árbol a la derecha.

It might be easier to see in this picture from August 2014. The new shed would be to the left of the current shed or to the right of the tree a little further back from where the kayaks are in this picture.

Es más fácil ver en esta foto de agosto de 2014. El nuevo cobertizo estaría a la izquierda de él que ya está allí o a la derecha al árbol y un poco detrás de donde están los kayaks en esta foto.

We started taking measurements right away.

Empezamos a tomar medidas inmediatamente.

This little bird took great affront that we would disturb his kingdom. He did not approve of us building in either location and seemed to be calling us some terrible names.

Este pajarito se enojó con nosotros por molestar su reino. No aprobaba de nuestros planes de construir en ninguno de los dos sitios y parecía insultarnos.
