La Plaza de Mayo – Buenos Aires

After escaping the rain that ruined our visit to the San Telmo street market, Sofi and I got something to eat in a restaurant near the Plaza de Mayo. I already showed a few pictures of the Plaza de Mayo from my day with my friend Miguelito, but I had not been able to visit much that day. Sofi and I decided to go into the Cathedral, which does not look anything like a cathedral in my opinion. We visited José de San Martín’s tomb. He was the George Washington of Argentina.

I, of course, was distracted by all of the mosaic work.

Claro que los mosaicos me distrajeron.

After the cathedral, we went to the Cabildo. This building is now a museum, but in colonial times, it was the seat of the government.

This little guy caught my eye. Among the founders of the nation, was this man that seems to be part elf.

My favorite part of the Cabildo was the view of Plaza de Mayo from the balcony. It was particularly beautiful in the twilight of that rainy day.

We asked the security guard to take a picture of the two of us, and this is what we got. My selfie turned out a lot better.

Does any one else see two men on the roof of the neighboring building of the Cabildo? What I swore were two guys turned out to be a pipe and a dark spot on the wall.

From there we wandered around for a bit before taking the subway home.

Here’s a few random pictures from the metro, including more mosaics.

Finally, just before we arrived at Sofi’s house, I noticed this monument in a park. She had never before noticed that there was a bust of Mao Zedong so close to her apartment.

Back at the house, I was happy to see my feline friend. He forgave us for abandoning him all day, and I was content to get a warm snuggle after a wet, rainy day.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. See–you were able to write a blog post even with Spiderman and Ironman around! How’s it going? I think of you often.
Isn’t it a comfort to be around cats and dogs when you travel? I always get so lonely for mine. Once I was on a horrible trip and I got the flu. The only thing that soothed me was my hosts’ cat, who somehow knew I needed her.

    • Things have been going well. It is a challenge, but they are settling in and not crying to much to go home, so it is getting easier. I just feel terrible when they tell me that they want to go home.
Cats make me happy. I was so glad that I could spend time with some while I was far away from my own. It sounds like your friend has a sweet cat as well.
