Las Olas Art Show 2014

On what was supposed to be our last day in Florida, we planned to have dinner in Fort Lauderdale before heading to the airport. Unbeknownst to us, the Las Olas Art Show was taking place downtown.

I only wish that we had been there a little earlier so that we could have spent more time. By the time we arrived, most of the vendors were packing up. There was still a lot of amazing art to see.

This elephant is awesome, but I think that he is a permanent fixture on Las Olas Boulevard.

These were the pieces that really blew me away.

Artist Lorenzo Ortega's spider webs

I want one of those spiders! Unfortunately, the price was a little beyond what I was able to spend at the moment, but someday I plan to own one. Anyone want to buy me a rock spider in a rebar web?

That same artist made this tree with two birds and a nest. I only wish that I could have captured it better. It would look lovely in my yard.

This was another of his pieces.

I asked the artist for his card because I really would like to purchase one someday. His name is Lorenzo Ortega, and he lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his girlfriend and fellow artist, Debbie Flowers. I spoke to her for a while when I asked if I could take pictures and write about them on my blog. She works with copper.

I loved her flowers.

Her smaller pieces were less expensive than the spider webs, trees and large flowers that I really wanted to buy. I emptied out my wallet to purchase a butterfly.

Later, I wished that I had bought a dragonfly. Once I visited her website, I desperately wanted a “Skeeter.” So, now you know what to give me for my birthday or for Christmas! I am happy that I at least have the butterfly.

She looks lovely with the ants, does she not?

Now, you should go to Copper Work Studio and buy your own. Or you can email Lorenzo Ortega at lalerock@gmail.com to buy me a spider web. Either way, I will be happy.

Happy Homemaking!

P.S. I was not paid or endorsed in any way. I just like sharing cool art and supporting artists!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house.
