New Garden Beds

Things are abloom at the Cape of Dreams. I was afraid that I would miss all of the best flowers while we were on our trip last weekend, but I had nothing to fear. Beauty abounds yet.

In fact, a neighbor stopped by yesterday to tell me that he always enjoys passing my garden while walking his dog. He said that it looks different every day but is always beautiful. I agree with him!

The view of the flowers never fails to put a smile on my face when I pull into the driveway.

Multitudes of green cherries also make me grin. I am relieved that I did not kill my little tree. There are even more cherries than there were last year when the tree was much bigger.

I could look at pictures of flowers all day, but this post is supposed to be about our new garden beds. Douglas put them together this morning while I was at work. The closer of the two is 8′ x 4′, while the back bed is 6′ x 2′.

Before we filled the beds with dirt, I wanted to dig up as many violets as I could to plant in the front yard. I did not get many, but they will multiply on their own.

The next step was to put down newspaper to attempt to keep the weeds at bay.

Finally, I put in just enough dirt to keep the newspaper from blowing away. I took the dirt from a pile that our neighbor keeps at the back of his property. He is kind enough to share it with us.

I hope to get the plants in the new gardens this weekend. Check back for an update next week.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Will you give us a long-shot of your new garden beds where they’re situated in your yard? I love to come home and just find things (projects) finished. New garden beds hold such promise. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
