San Telmo, Buenos Aires

On Sunday, July 03 Sofi and I planned to go to San Telmo to visit the street market that is there on weekends. It was forcast to rain – yet again – but we took our chances. Before I show you anything from Sunday, I want to share a picture of this house with you. We saw it on the way to ESMA, but I wasn’t sure how to fit it in that post. The house is for sale, and I desperately wanted to buy it. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Douglas and I could fix it up?

¿No sería buenísimo si Douglas y yo pudiéramos comprarla y rehabilitarla?

So, here is the train that we took to the Retiro Station, and a few of the sites we saw out the window.

I really liked these old train cars. There were some others that had some interesting graffiti, but the pictures were even blurrier than these.

The Retiro Station is beautiful. Not as pretty as Grand Central Terminal, of course, but pretty.

I like the tile and art deco details.

Outside the station, we had to wait a while for a bus. I entertained myself by watching a man feed the pigeons in the park across the street.

Finally, we reached San Telmo just as it was starting to drizzle. That did not stop us for a while we were able to keep poking around.

A couple of times when it was raining harder we went into shops along the way.

I really loved this antique mall, but most of the shops were closed. That meant that I did not get to buy this fish made out of spoons or the walrus and his friend the squirrel.

I loved these bugs made out of seeds and bought a couple of them.

Even the ground caught my eye. I took the second picture because I picked up a couple of those brown pieces for my mosaic.

The meat at this barbecue smelled good and there was a live band playing, but it didn’t seem to be the right place for two vegetarians.

San Telmo on a rainy, winter dayThis church was the end of the line for us. We decided to get out of the rain and find a place to eat. I would love to go back to San Telmo one weekend day in the summer when it is not raining. I enjoyed my time there, but I would have liked it a lot better had it not been cold and raining. It was a shame that there was not better weather throughout my entire trip to Buenos Aires.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. What a great idea to pick up some pieces to add to your mosaic. You’ll always know they are special. The spoon fish reminds me of a local artist who makes fabulous things out of cutlery. At least you got some Argentinian bugs!
