Winter Living Room – La sala en invierno

Baby, it’s cold outside, but inside is so delightful. I know. It’s not Christmastime, and that is a mashup of two holiday carols. However, that sentence perfectly sums up my feeling these days.

My living room feels so warm and cozy. I am loving it these days.

The nights are pretty special as well.

Las noches son especiales también.

I bought the salt lamp this fall, and the soft glow that it adds to the room is perfect.

Douglas received this lantern as a gift from an athlete he had been working with. It works by remote control.

Our new windows are doing their job. The snow blower covered them in snow after the last storm. The next morning the windows were still covered in the cold stuff, which means that the heat from the inside is not escaping through the glass.

You might have noticed that there are more plants in the room. Then again, you might not have because there have always been a lot.

Plants in the living room

These two came from the trash. The top one was fighting for its life for a while, when I had it in the dining room. This spot in the living room seems to agree with it more, and it is now doing well. The bottom plant lost some leaves when we first brought it in, but it is thriving.

The African violets were a gift from our neighbor. He has given us dozens of plants over the years.

My loving husband added a dozen red roses to the room on Valentine’s Day.

Roses hanging on the wall

You might wonder why they are hanging on the wall. The pictures below will give you the answer. That little devil loves to snack on flowers. It is driving him crazy that he cannot figure out a way to reach them.

I hope you are staying dry and warm this winter.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. • Every year three or four plants seem to die on me, but we always seem to get more. The ones we have keep multiplying as well, despite the fact that Ponche attacks them mercilessly. He is a punk.

  1. I love Ponche! He reminds me of our little dickens, Crosby (also black and white). Always into something he shouldn’t be. Why are those B&W boys so wild? Eric can’t give me flowers for that very reason–the cats eat them. Ponche clearly thinks the living room is cozy, too.

    • Ponche is taking over for Creme in the photo department. He just loves attention… and eating plants, the little jerk. I think that you are right about blank and white cats. The only other one I ever had was quite the character as well.

  2. Love the winter living room! Sooooo cozy! Especially at night. It looks like a great place to unwind after a busy day. Love the picturs of Ponche and the roses – those made me laugh so hard when I saw them on FB.
