Yard Sale 2016 – Venta de garaje

Saturday morning dawned grey, but it was not raining. Douglas had gone home sick on Friday, and I was not sure that we should even attempt to have the sale. My good man is very rarely sick, so when he actually leaves work because he is not feeling well, I worry that he might be on death’s doorstep. However, he thought that he was well enough to help me carry out the stuff outside, and I would be in charge of the sale.

We started putting things out at 08:00, and things were going well until 12:00. At that time it started to mist, and people stopped coming.  We covered the clothes, books and other things that could be damaged by rain with tarps and waited, but the mist never stopped.

It was starting to get cold, and at 14:00 I decided that I was sick of standing in the rain. Douglas convinced me to wait for a while longer, but finally we started to pack things up.

Douglas wanted to bring everything back into the house and try to have another sale next weekend, but I was sick of it. I had made a pact that none of those things would ever enter my house again, and I was determined keep that agreement with myself. In the end, the entire back of the truck was packed with things to bring to the Goodwill.

Our porch was packed with things that I am hoping to sell on Craigslist or give away on our local Buy Nothing Facebook page.

The living room and basement are messy; I am slowly getting things cleaned up.

Overall, the yard sale was a success. We made over $200. It is just a shame that it started to rain because I think that we could have made more than double that. The greatest feat was emptying space in our house; it feels good to have the house cleared out.

The next vacancy in our house is going to be the apartment upstairs that we rent out. Our tenants gave us notice that they will be leaving on June 15th. If you know anyone in Westchester that is looking for an apartment, let me know!

Happy Homemaking!

It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. 🙂 left work early? I only survived 45min of work before having to head home, and that is after going in 4hrs late. Can only claim to having survived the yard sale. I still think we could have sold the rest the next day… 😛

  2. Wait, wait. Think of all of the extra storage area you would have if you DIDN’T rent out the upstairs!! lol

  3. the rain is a big bummer so far this year, although i know the trees and flowers need it. sorry you weren’t able to double your money, but i would have packed it up too. i don’t do cold and wet!

  4. Now I am getting paranoid that if we attempt the citywide yard sale this year, it’ll be wet. Because we live in the Northwet! Congrats on getting the stuff out of the house, though.

  5. If I were in your neck of the woods I would have bought some of the stuff you carted off to Goodwill. Of course I’m extremely yardsale challenged at my house because we live at the end of a dead end, very little traffic. I hope you’ll take us on a good tour of your upstairs when the tenants move out.
