A good friend of mine is on the board of the United Way of Norman, OK. He posted on Facebook the other day that it has been a challenging time for them. If you would like to help but are unsure what you can do, they are collecting money to help with the relief effort.

You can send checks, NO CASH, to the United Way of Norman, 2424 Springer Dr., Ste. 304, Norman, OK, 73069. Memo check “Oklahoma Tornado”. Even the smallest amount can help a family restart their life after losing everything.

This tornado following so soon after Hurricane Sandy has really caused me to think about the world that we live in. I find it helpful to go out and look for the beauty that nature has to offer in order to forget about the ugliness it also doles out. These are a few shots of the beauty in my front yard.

Even prettier in my eyes than the flowers of today are the buds of flowers still to come. It reminds me that there are beautiful things occurring every day, despite all of the horror we are shown in the news.

It is important to recognize the good in the world and not let the bad beat us down.

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com

  1. I forgot to mention regarding yesterday’s post, when I first glimpsed the top photo, I didn’t know what it was. I thought it was textured fabric or something. It took me a second to realize it’s the tornado’s path of destruction. It’s hard to comprehend the enormity of the disaster. A check will be in the mail tomorrow.

    • It is hard to comprehend the complete destruction of the tornado. How could everything disappear so quickly? It is a scary reminder of the brevity of life. Thank you for your generosity.
