Stirling, Scotland – Escocia
On Saturday, 26 March we met Taylor early to take a train to Stirling. We got the schedule mixed up and had some time to kill before the train. We went to St. Andrew’s Square first. There was a light installation there. It looked a lot more impressive at night.
El sábado, 26 de marzo nos reunimos con Taylor temprano para tomar el tren a Stirling. Nos confundimos del horario y tuvimos una hora antes de salir. Fuimos a la Plaza de San Andrés primero. Había una instalación de luces allí que se veía mejor de noche.
We also checked out Jenners, an old department store in Great Britain.
También fuimos a Jenners, un almacén viejo de Gran Bretaña.
Finally we got on the train. The views along the way were beautiful.
Por fin abordamos el tren y salimos. Las vistas del tren eran preciosas.
Douglas was not as enthralled with them.
A Douglas no le gustaban tanto.
I need to find some old whiskey barrels so that I can make a planter train in my yard.

Finally, we arrived in Stirling and headed up the hill to the Church of the Holy Rood.

The Church of the Holy Rood was founded in 1129, and the oldest part of the church as built in the 15th Century.
La Iglesia de la Santa Cruz se estableció en el año 1129 y la parte más antigua de la iglesia se construyó en el Siglo XV.
The Church is famous as the place where James VI, son of Mary Queen of Scots, was crowned King of Scots at age thirteen months.
La iglesia es famosa como el lugar donde Jacobo VI, hijo de María I de Escocia, se coronó a los trece meses de edad.
After the church we walked around the cemetery. Unfortunately, it rained the entire time we were in Stirling.
Después de salir de la iglesia caminamos por el cementerio. Desafortunadamente, llovió todo el tiempo que estábamos en Stirling.
There were some beautiful views in the cemetery. I would like to visit again in summer or at least when the weather were nicer.
Había unas vistas bonitas del cementerio. Me gustaría visitar en verano o al menos en mejor tiempo.
Stirling Castle dates back to the 14th Century and was long the preferred residence of the Scottish royalty.
El Castillo de Stirling data del Siglo XIV y por mucho tiempo era la residencia preferida de la realeza escocesa.
The castle was crowded the day that we went, but I really enjoyed our visit.
El castillo estaba lleno de gente ese día, pero disfruté la visita de todos modos.
There were a lot of activities for children that I enjoyed as well. I did not play Legos or listen to the storyteller, since we had just gone to the storytelling the night before, but I did really enjoy the children studying to become court jesters.
Había muchas actividades para niños que gocé también. No jugué con los Legos o escuché al narrador de cuentos, porque habíamos escuchado muchos cuentos la noche anterior, pero me gustó ver a los niños estudiando para ser bufones del corte.
Everything about the castle was impressive, but the views were particularly nice. We were glad that the fog lifted for a few minutes so that we were able to see the hills before it started to rain again.
Todo el castillo era impresionante, pero las vistas eran especialmente bonitas. Estábamos felices de que la neblina se quitó por unos minutos para que pudiéramos ver las colinas antes de que empezó a llover de nuevo.
We saw this guy several times around the castle. His outfit was impressive. I wish I had taken a picture when he was closer, but I did not want to look like a stalker.

After Stirling Castle, we continued on to Argyll’s Lodging, a 17th Century home in the Renaissance style. It was interesting to see how people lived back then.
Después del Castillo de Stirling fuimos a la Residencia de Argyll, una casa del Siglo XVII construido de estilo del renacimiento. Fue interesante ver como vivía la gente entonces.
I loved that everything was purple in several rooms.
Me encantaba que todo era morado en varios cuartos.
From there we wandered around the town.
De allí vagamos por el pueblo.

Something interesting about the street names in Scotland is that they are often named for the activities that used to take place there. That means that they often have names of local professions, and the names can change every block.
Algo interesante de los nombres de las calles en Escocia es que vienen de las actividades que allí se hacían. Eso significa que son nombres de las profesiones locales y los nombres de las calles pueden cambiar de un cuadro a otro.
We visited several charity shops, and I bought some gifts.
Visitamos varias tiendas de caridad y compré unos regalos.
I also fell in love with this chandelier in a shop window. The store was closed so I could not buy it, but I am sure that it was too expensive for me anyway. Our romance was short lived, but at least I have this photo to remember him by.
También me enamoré de este candelabro en una vitrina. La tienda estaba cerrada así que no pude comprarlo, pero estoy segura de que hubiera sido demasiado caro para mí de todos modos. Nuestro romance duró poco tiempo, pero al menos tengo esta foto de él para recordarle.
Back in Edinburgh we got together with our friends Adam and Carole for dinner at the Westroom and drinks at Panda & Sons Barbershop Bar. It was great to finally meet them in person. They live on the Isle of Wight. Carole and Douglas met playing a game on Facebook a long time ago, and then she started following my blog. She seemed like a lovely person, and I was glad to confirm that she was! We had a delightful evening.
De vuelta en Edimburgo, nos reunimos con nuestros amigos Adam y Carole para cenar en Westroom y tomar unas copas en Panda & Sons Barbershop Bar. Fue un placer conocerlos por fin en persona. Ellos viven en la Isla de Wight. Carole y Douglas se conocieron jugando un juego de Facebook hace muchos años y después ella empezó a seguir mi blog. Siempre me parecía buena gente y ¡estaba feliz de confirmar que la es! Pasamos una noche de maravilla.
Carole and Adam stayed in the same hotel as Douglas and I. On the way back home we had a spectacular view of Edinburgh Castle.
Carole y Adam se quedaron en el mismo hotel que Douglas y yo. De camino al hotel podíamos ver el Castillo de Edimburgo que estaba bella esa noche.

Stirling castle looks fascinating. Is it so dark because of pollution? I have a feeling I would really love it over there. I like the photo of the cemetery against the mist.
The castle did not feel that dark in person. I am sure that it is dirty from being so old. They are restoring certain parts, and those areas are lighter than others. It also probably looks darker since it was so dark that day. The cemetery was beautiful.
How fun to visit an accessible castle and to use all the various items. And you certainly got your purple fix on. A cheery color in a gloomy climate. I’m especially drawn to that purple door in the corner of the house. What a great trip. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I love the planter train!!! great post, so many great pictures. too bad it was raining/overcast a lot, but from your pictures it’s easy to see how stunning everything must be in the sunshine! so cool you got to meet in person your online friends. LOVE that chandelier!!!
We will have to go back someday in the summer.
