The Beginning of Christmas

This weekend I was finally able to start my Christmas decorating. I am far from finished, but things are looking much better at the Cape of Dreams.

Clean house for Christmas

It all began with a good cleaning spree. The house was a mess.

Since all of the furniture needed to be rearranged to make room for the tree, I decided to do some deep cleaning. First, I moved all of the furniture out of the living room.

Then, I vacuumed, swept and mopped.

Finally, I put the furniture back.

Once all of the furniture, was in place, I was able to assemble the Christmas tree. My little helper enjoyed this immensely.

I have always put the tree in front of the window. This year, I decided to do something different.

It still needs to be decorated, but that will be another day. Stay tuned for lots of Christmas decorations to come! You might have spotted some of the decorations already in a couple of the pictures. Here is a closer look at a couple. Check back in the next few weeks to see details.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. It’s looking good, Jessica! I have to admit that I’m getting in the spirit too. I try to fight it but there’s too many pretty things on the internet and people preparing (like you) and it makes me want to do the same. So thanks for more motivation to NOT be a grinch. (laughing) Looking forward to seeing all your little holiday touches. Crème is adorable. That cat is so much fun.
    Happy decorating!

    • Thank you, Stacey! It was easy for me not to be a grinch this weekend because I had some time. Douglas was working all day Saturday, so I needed something to keep me busy. Besides, Crème kept asking when we were going to get a tree, so I had to do it for her. The things we do for our kids. 😉 Glad your catching the spirit.

  2. and of course once the tree was up, Creme had to inspect from top to bottom. Unfortunately I don’t think Jessica was able to get a good pic of her IN the tree…

  3. That little Crème–what a ham! Tonight we’re bringing our tree inside, and I bet Lacy will be just as helpful. Putting the tree in front of the mirror = more lights!

    • More lights is exactly the effect that I am going for! I even put an extra mirror behind the tree underneath the big one. Hopefully, I will be able to decorate it before too long! Can’t wait to see your tree as well.
