The Next Big Thing

Here it is.

Do you know what it is? I will give you a hint. It goes in the kitchen.

Those who know me or have read my blog for a while are aware that there were many things that I did not love about my kitchen when I first moved in this house four years ago.  I have made a lot of improvements, but there is still a ways to go.

Kitchen 2009

My first upgrade was replacing the refrigerator, sink and faucet before I started this blog. Then, I refinished an old cabinet to go beside the fridge. We also replaced the dishwasher, which meant that finally all of the appliances matched. Painting and retiling the floor were stressful while we were doing it, but we were pleased with the results. I really liked installing the wine crate shelves and the pull out drawer beside the stove.

The kitchen is starting to shape up, but there are two big projects that loom on the horizon. Last weekend, we scheduled the first of these. We are getting new counters!

Currently we have two different countertop materials, and they are both ugly. I particularly hate the laminate. Here you can see both on either side of the stove.

I cannot wait to be rid of them! It will be a couple of weeks, but it is happening!

Happy Homemaking!

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com
